1: Organizational Design

For me, organizational design refers to arranging information and instructions in a clear sequence so that the audience can easily understand and follow along. This learning outcome was crucial when I was creating a tutorial video on how to make cheesecake. Before filming the video, I had to consider what information to include and how to arrange each step. I needed to introduce the ingredients and equipment first, then demonstrate the preparation and baking processes in the correct order. If the steps were out of order, it could confuse anyone trying to follow my instructions.

Through this project, I also learned that planning ahead is essential before creating the final product. I had to consider my target audience and determine how much information they would need. After watching and reviewing my classmates’ work, I also realized that showing the finished product at the beginning of the video helps the audience understand what they are about to make. This is an area where I can improve my own video. Overall, this project taught me that a well-organized structure makes instructional videos clearer, easier to follow, and more helpful to the audience.

2; Written Communication

Written communication refers to the ability to convey information clearly and accurately while taking the audience’s needs into account. Although my Project 1 primarily consists of an instructional video, written communication remains a crucial part of the production process. Before creating the cheesecake video, I had to consider what content I wanted to cover and how to make the instructions simple and easy to understand. I wanted even those with little baking experience to be able to understand the entire process by watching my video.

This project also made me realize that instructions should be specific and clear, and should not include too much unnecessary information. When explaining each step, I needed to use concise, easy-to-understand language and present the information in a logical manner. The peer review process also helped me better understand this learning outcome. While reviewing my classmates’ projects, I noticed that sometimes adding a few details can make the instructions easier to understand. This prompted me to reflect on my own project and consider where I could provide more detailed explanations. Clear communication is equally important in daily life and at work, as vague information can easily lead to misunderstandings. Overall, this project helped me practice conveying information in a well-organized, easy-to-understand manner that is appropriate for the audience.

3: Visual Communication

Visual communication is perhaps the learning outcome I’ve engaged with most closely while producing instructional videos. To me, visual communication means using images, videos, typography, and other visual elements to help the audience understand information more easily. In my project, I created a video demonstrating how to make a cheesecake, so it was very important to let the audience actually see me go through the process rather than just listening to or reading instructions. Baking involves many steps, and a visual demonstration makes it much easier to understand.

After completing this project and reviewing my classmates’ work, I gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of visual choices. For example, I realized that showing the finished cheesecake at the beginning of the video helps viewers clearly understand what they’re making and what the final product should look like. I also learned that pacing the video is crucial, as viewers need enough time to observe and understand each step. Visual communication is equally useful in many other contexts, especially when written instructions alone are difficult to follow. This project made me realize that effective visual presentation not only makes the work look more appealing but also makes the information clearer and more engaging, making it easier for viewers to understand and follow along.
